Two Boxers to participate at Asian Youth Boxing Championships in Mongolia

The Boxing Association of Sri Lanka has selected 2 youth boxers to represent Sri Lanka at the Asian
Youth Boxing Championships scheduled to be held from 9th to 18th November 2019 in Ulaanbaatar the
capital of Mongolia. The two boxers were selected from the Youth Boxing Championships for General
Jagath Jayasuriya Challenge trophy held last month. Thonej Rashmika representing Vidyarathna
University is a south paw stylish boxer and Stubb Shield Boxing Champion in 56 Kg Bantam weight
category in 2018. Tharind Nethmina is a product of Narandeniya National School in Kaburupitiya.
Nethmina won LV Jayaweera, TB Jayah and Youth Championships this year. The two boxers will get an
opportunity to showcase their skills in Fly and Bantam weight categories. 26 countries from Asian
regions with strong counties such as Kazakhstan, China, Philippines, Tajikistan, Thailand and host
country Mongolia are expected to enter full team to dominate the Championships. Participation of
youth boxers at the Asian Boxing Championship will consider as one of long-term strategy to develop
future champions of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka. International qualified 3 Star Coach Amila
Aravinda and 1 Star qualified Deepal Jayasinghe will work as the team coach of Sri Lanka Team.
