Mr. Anuruddha Shanaka Bandara, the former schools boxing champion, Honorable Consul of Sri Lanka in Guinea, former head coach for the national team and army team in Guinea, and founder of the APS Group of Companies in Guinea, has been elected as the new President of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) during their recent Annual General Meeting held in Colombo.
With a majority of five votes over his opponent, Wasantha Kumara, Anuruddha Shanaka assumes the presidency of BASL for the next four years. The election of office-bearers took place under the supervision of the three-member Election Committee chaired by retired General Jagath Jayasuriya, appointed by the Ministry of Sports.
In a significant development, former Sri Lanka Boxing Captain and South Asian Games medalist DIG Saman Gunaratna prevailed over another esteemed administrator, retired Lieutenant Colonel Hemantha Weerasinghe, for the crucial position of secretary in the first BASL election held in over two decades.
The newly elected office-bearers of BASL are as follows:
