JUNIOR SCHOOL BOXERS UNDERGO TRAINING IN INDIA

The Boxing Association of Sri Lanka is continuously committed in nurturing young talent, aiming to secure
an Olympic Medal by investing in intensive International Training Programmes.
BASL sent junior-age group boxers to undergo advanced training in India consisting of 14 boys and 12
girls to participate in a two-week training session at the National Boxing Academy in Rohtak, Haryana.
During this period, they will train alongside peers from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and the host country,
India, fostering invaluable International exposure and competition.
The selection of these individuals based on their exceptional performance, securing gold medals at
competitive boxing events such as the BASL Schools/BASL Junior Boxing Championships, LV Jayaweera/TB
Jayah Boxing Tournaments, and All Island Schools Games Boxing Tournaments in 2023.
BASL is planning to send a team of boxers for the Asian Junior Boxing Championship scheduled to be held
from 21st August to 3rd September in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The selection of the final team for this
championship will be based on the performance of boxers from the BASL Junior Boxing Championships
scheduled to be held in June 2024. BASL expects a tough selection boxing event in June 2024, raising
hopes to win a medal at the Asian Junior Boxing Championship.
